ALEXANDRIA: Ittihad have released striker Mohamed Al-Yamani, having not received any offer for the former Ismaili man despite placing him on the transfer list.
There were no clubs interested in signing Al-Yamani, so we had no choice but to release him, Ittihad coach Taha Basri told FilGoal.com on Thursday.
Many have expected Al-Yamani to become one of Egypt s glittering stars after his exploits in the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
However, after being involved in a car crash a few days following Egypt s third-place finish, Al-Yamani never recaptured his form.
After ending his Belgian adventure with Standard Liege, Al-Yamani had an unsuccessful spell with Ismaili before joining Ittihad, where he endured a disappointing season.
Basri, who helped Ittihad retain their top-flight status last season, is overhauling his squad.
Six more players were shown the door by the Alexandria-based side.
Striking duo Daudu Alilu and Saied Rabie, Mohamed Sharaf, Al-Wakil Salama, Youssef Taher and defender Amr Al-Desouki will no longer play with Ittihad.
