CAIRO: A thief and pickpocket wanted in connection with 61 such cases were finally apprehended when he attempted to rob a man in broad daylight at the Sayeda Zaineb metro station. The thief, who had snatched a handbag from a man, jumped over the station’s electronic ticket barriers but was finally cornered and arrested despite brandishing a knife.

Mostafa Sufi, 58, also nicknamed ‘Tata’, had followed Salah Saleh Ahmed, 49, after the latter left the Sayeda post office where he cashed his salary of LE 450. At the station’s electronic barriers he swooped on his victim, grabbing his handbag and attempting to flee the scene. The victim screamed, asking the passengers for help, but all were seized by panic until the criminal was arrested.
