CAIRO: In many of the country’s cabarets and seedier night spots, it is not uncommon to find a belly dancer or a singer of sorts flooded with banknotes of all kinds as he or she is performing at a night club or a wedding.

This is a common form of adulation for the performer. But it seems that Dalia, a belly dancer, was hard hit by the evil eye, for all the American dollars that were showered on her proved to be counterfeit. A report by Al Masaa revealed that Dalia, 25, from Helwan, used counterfeit US dollars to purchase ornaments from jeweler Mohamed Fawzi at his shop in the same district.

When police interrogated her, Dalia said she did not know that the seven $100-notes that were given to her at a party by a rich Arab were fake. Poor Dalia went belly up.
