A Cambodian ship suffered serious damage by fire, Friday, while docked along the Suez Canal, the Ministry of Defence spokesperson said.
According to spokesperson Mohamed Samir, navy forces received notification that the ship was ablaze on Friday evening by Port Tawfik in the city of Suez, but the fire was extinguished by the navy.
The area was secured by marine units, and specialised fire-fighting crews extinguished the fire. Photos published by Samir show that the ship was gutted by the fire, with the bridge’s instruments destroyed.
No injuries were reported. It is understood that the crew consisted of 13 individuals, comprised of six Egyptians and seven Cambodians.
In comments to local media, Rahim Mustafa, media spokesperson for the Red Sea Ports Authority, said the fire did not affect any surroundings in Port Tawfik or the southern entrance of the Suez Canal.
Mustafa said the incident has been referred to the Prosecutor General’s office for further investigations into the cause of the fire.
