Egyptian state media has reported that it was a builder who caused an internet blackout in parts of the country.

The builder was digging a sewage line in front of a drinking water factory in Kafr Al-Dowar in the Beheira governorate when he cut a cable that served internet and mobile internet servers, according to MENA news agency.

Many parts of the country experienced an internet blackout, including parts of Cairo and Alexandria.

The incident also caused disruption at Cairo International Airport. A statement from Egypt Air said the internet outage caused delays of up to two hours. An EgyptAir official said normal service resumed at 12.50 Cairo Local Time.
