Who doesn’t like fresh, home-baked goods? There are times that warrant a deliciously crunchy cookie, a tasty tartlet or a perfect pie made with the freshest of ingredients and love. However, most of us do not have the time to rush into the kitchen whenever the craving hits. No problem, Cookies & Pies deliver the freshest baked goods right to your doorstep.

The menu of the family-run company includes a variety of sweet treats ranging from fresh strawberry tartlets to butterscotch chip cookies with all sorts of yumminess in between.

Karim Fayed, owner and founder of Cookies & Pies, has been operating his own diving boats in the Red Sea for decades, but with the decline of tourism he needed to branch out. A visit to a cousin inspired the new business.

“My wife had baked some butter cookies to bring along to my cousin and everyone loved them. This gave us the idea,” Fayed said. “It started as a home-based business; we used our own kitchen and made cookies and pies per order.”

As the couple showcasing their baked delicacies at events, word spread of the quality of Cookies & Pies. “We only use the best and freshest ingredients,” Fayed said.  This commitment to quality is the basis of the company’s success.

“We are in the process of taking the next steps,” Fayed said. “At some point the cookies were everywhere and it was time to move out of the house. We now have opened a small kitchen and have someone to help us and will soon hire more staff.”

While the popularity of Cookies & Pies is growing, do not expect to see the opening of a dedicated store soon. “From the beginning we decided we would like to work business to business and avoid having our own shop and the headache that comes with it so, for now, we are focusing on our online business,” Fayed said. “The next step would be producing baked good for other businesses.”

The most popular items on the menu are the Oatmeal and Chip Cookies and the Lemon and Fresh Fruit Pies, but Fayed is open to special requests. “The nice thing about being a small business is that you can be flexible,” Fayed said. “If someone wants something special we can try and find the ingredients and then make it for them.”

Orders should be placed one day in advance through the company’s website or Facebook page. Cookies & Pies delivers all over Cairo.
