The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced on Saturday that it had received an EGP 30,000 donation from students at Hayat International Academy, which will be used to sanitise the Abu El-Manga Canal in the Qaliubiya governorate.

The same statement noted that ministry has also coordinated with the academy for their fourth annual expo to discuss water and irrigation issues. The event, which is organised by the academy and said to take place this month, will be attended by a number of ministry officials.

With the encouragement of the students at the academy, Egypt participated in the international “Walking for Water” initiative, held in 192 cities worldwide.

The initiative encourages participants to walk six kilometres to develop an understanding of the suffering of the many people who walk a similar distance just for clean water.

Cairo became the 193rd city to host the event.
