The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Monday that the draw for the upcoming Premier League season has been postponed indefinitely pending security clearances.

The draw, to divide the 22 teams in Egypt’s top league into two groups, was set to take place on Tuesday; however, the EFA published an urgent statement on Tuesday announcing the indefinite postponement of the draw. The association said that it is waiting for security clearances from the Ministry of Interior.

The start of the league has been postponed twice but the EFA eventually announced the start date to be 26 December. Given the latest postponement it is unclear when the league will start.

The EFA president Gamal Allam is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday to explain the situation further.

A media spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said the ministry is studying the security situation and is working in cooperation with the EFA on this matter.
