Five Egyptian companies are participating in the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), seeking to expand exports, attract investment and strengthen economic partnerships between Egypt and Greece.
The Egyptian Commercial Service, through its office in Athens, is supporting Egypt’s participation, with the five companies exhibiting across an area of more than 100 square metres. The trade office is also holding meetings with Egyptian and Greek companies, chambers of commerce and business organisations to explore potential trade and investment opportunities.
The 90th edition of TIF, which runs from September 5 to 13, 2026, coincides with the centenary of the fair, which was first launched in 1926. Japan is the guest of honour this year. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the opening and toured the exhibition pavilions.
First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service Abdel Aziz El Sherif said that the trade office in Athens is working to maximise the benefits of Egypt’s participation by facilitating business-to-business meetings between Egyptian exhibitors, major Greek companies, Greek companies operating and investing in Egypt, chambers of commerce and business organisations.
The meetings aim to increase trade and investment cooperation, expand existing business activities and establish new partnerships, El Sherif added.
He added that discussions are focusing on improving access for Egyptian exports to the Greek market, identifying market needs and requirements of importers and distributors, as well as exploring joint production partnerships targeting third markets in Africa, Arab countries, Europe and the Balkans.
As part of these efforts, the trade office held a meeting with the chairman and owner of Greek aluminium manufacturer ALUMIL to discuss the company’s expansion plans and investments in Egypt.
ALUMIL has established manufacturing operations in Egypt producing aluminium products and is considering expanding its production and manufacturing capacity to meet local demand while using Egypt as an export base for neighbouring markets, particularly in Africa, the Arab region, Europe and the Balkans.
The discussions covered opportunities to expand the company’s existing investments and production and export activities in Egypt, while leveraging the country’s strategic location and its network of free and preferential trade agreements.
The trade office also held meetings with Greek chambers and business organisations, including the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to strengthen links between Egyptian and Greek business communities and improve the exchange of information on trade and investment opportunities.
The Egyptian Commercial Service also participated in economic events held on the sidelines of the fair, including the “Discover Japan” event organised in cooperation with Enterprise Greece, given Japan’s status as guest of honour.
TIF provides a platform for strengthening Egypt’s presence in the Greek market and expanding access to markets in Southeast Europe and the Balkans, while also promoting opportunities for Greek companies to expand their investments in Egypt.
Bilateral trade between Egypt and Greece stood at around $2bn, while more than 200 Greek companies operate in Egypt across various sectors. Greek exports to Egypt reached approximately $611.9m in 2025.
El Sherif concluded that the Egyptian Commercial Service would continue following up on the meetings held during the fair, with the aim of converting initial business contacts into concrete trade and investment opportunities.
