Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad held talks with L’Oréal Egypt to strengthen cooperation on sustainability and support the implementation of extended producer responsibility, as part of the country’s transition towards a circular economy, according to a ministry statement.
The meeting reviewed the company’s roadmap for reducing carbon emissions and improving waste management, including initiatives to increase the use of recycled plastic and achieve zero waste across its production processes.
Awad emphasised that the government is actively supporting investment in environmental and climate-related sectors, describing them as key drivers of economic growth and job creation in line with Egypt’s national circular economy strategy.
She also called for enhanced collaboration in areas such as emissions reduction, carbon credit trading, and public awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging recycling and minimising waste.
L’Oréal, which began operations in Egypt in 2009, has invested more than €100m in the local market and employs around 450 people.
The company operates entirely on renewable energy and recycles water used in its production processes, while continuing efforts to further reduce carbon emissions beyond its 2025 targets.
For his part, Mohamed El-Araby, Chief Executive of L’Oréal Egypt, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability and its partnership with the Egyptian government to deliver measurable environmental impact. He added that the company is also focused on supporting community development and women’s empowerment initiatives.
