South Korea and Egypt are deepening bilateral relations and cooperation across cultural and educational fields, Oh Sung-ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre, said during a celebration of the Korean Lunar New Year.

Speaking at the second edition of the “Ahlan Korea” monthly cultural series, Oh emphasised that initiatives of this nature play an important role in promoting mutual understanding and people-to-people exchange between the two nations.

The event, which celebrated Seollal, offered participants an interactive introduction to one of South Korea’s most significant national holidays. The proceedings included an audiovisual presentation outlining the history and customs of the Lunar New Year, alongside a showcase of prominent tourist destinations across Korea.

The presentation highlighted elements of Korean folklore, seasonal traditions, and culinary practices associated with the holiday.

Attendees participated in traditional Korean games and experienced wearing the Hanbok, the traditional Korean dress, to immerse themselves in the festive spirit. The programme concluded with a presentation of traditional Seollal dishes and tastings of Korean New Year cuisine.

The “Ahlan Korea” programme is scheduled to continue throughout 2026 in cooperation with the Korean Tourism Organisation. Organisers stated that each upcoming edition will highlight a different Korean city to provide Egyptian audiences with a comprehensive overview of the country’s heritage, arts, and landmarks.

The Korean Cultural Centre indicated that educational and cultural institutions interested in participating in future editions of the series may contact the centre for further details.
