The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) has implemented 600 water treatment plants at a cost of EGP 18bn, with a total disposal capacity of more than 3m cubic meters per day (cm³/day).

An AOI official told Daily News Egypt that the current sewage treatment projects have capacities ranging from 15 cm³/day to 150,000 cm³/day. He revealed that AOI has also completed the design, implementation, and installation of the Compact sewage treatment plant with a capacity of up to 1,500 meters cm³/day.

He explained that the technology used in wastewater treatment includes: activated sludge plant (ASP), rotating disc system, submerged aerated filter (SAF), suspended media filters (SMF), sequencing batch reactor (SBR), non-electric filter, and trickling filter.

The stations implemented by the ASP system include a sewage treatment plant in Dakahlia Governorate with a capacity of 1,500 cm³/day, and a sewage treatment unit with a capacity of 35,000 cm³/day in Aswan Governorate.

The stations implementing the rotating disc system include a wastewater treatment plant in Dahab, South Sinai, with a capacity of 8,000 cm³/day.

He pointed to the implementation of industrial wastewater treatment plants, where the units were launched from 50 cm³/day to 500 cm³/day for various factories.

With regard to the purification of surface water treatment processes, the source stressed that the AOI is currently implementing more than 20 plants with a capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 cm³/day.
