Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh flew to Cairo Saturday to attend a four-way summit with the leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, the official Saba news agency reported.

The summit focuses on the situation in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon and Somalia… and an international conference on the Middle East, that Washington is due to host later this year, Saba said.

President Hosni Mubarak, Saudi King Abdullah and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani reviewed with Saleh the latest Arab and international developments at the summit, whose date remained unclear.

The US-sponsored peace conference is intended to end the seven-year hiatus in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

But Arab leaders have warned the meeting will be a waste of time unless it addresses the core issues of the conflict.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas was also due in Cairo on Sunday as part of a diplomatic drive to muster support for the conference.

The Saudi monarch reached the Egyptian capital after visits to Turkey, Vatican City, Italy and Britain.

Iraq s President Jalal Talabani had arrived in Cairo on Saturday to hold talks with top Egyptian officials including President Mubarak, the official Mena news agency reported.

Talabani was greeted at the airport by Mubarak and Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, Mena said.

He is visiting Cairo for a couple of days. He will attend the inauguration of the Pan Arab Games and then hold talks with top Egyptian leaders, his media advisor Hiwa Othman said in Baghdad.
