No injuries after building fire in Boulaq

CAIRO: No injuries or deaths were reported when a building caught fire Monday afternoon in Boulaq, northeast of Cairo.

The fire broke out at around 4 pm in a four-storey building on Sabteya Street after a Styrofoam workshop on the ground floor caught fire, eyewitnesses said.

A high-ranking police official who preferred to remain anonymous told Daily News Egypt that there were no deaths and no one was injured.

The owner of the adjacent pipe shop, Gamal Khalifa Ali, told Daily News Egypt, “The fire started at round 4 pm and fire trucks arrived after three minutes. There were five ambulances and five fire trucks, and everything was put out in 30 minutes.

A thick cloud of black smoke could be seen as far away as Gamaet El-Dowal Street.

One person was reportedly taken to the hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Eyewitnesses and bystanders said it was probably caused by an electrical short.

There was still heavy police presence in the area at around 5 pm. -Daily News Egypt
