Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak opened on Nov. 7 the fourth edition of the AVEX International Airshow in Sharm El-Sheikh Airport.

The four-day biennial event is organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation.

President Mubarak toured the Airshow which hosts local and international aviation professionals from airports, airlines, aircraft manufacturers and ground handlers. Among exhibitors are EgyptAir and the Egyptian Airports Company.

Civil Aviation Minister Ahmed Shafik said that the exhibition boosts Egypt’s place on the map of international aviation.

According to Shafik, AVEX was able to overcome challenges that faced the aviation industry during the past few years and “achieve strong credibility among leaders of the aviation community,” according to a statement.

Shafik said that Egypt is planning on modernizing its airports, a plan which began with a major facelift to Cairo’s International Airport. Recently, a new terminal was opened in the northern-coast Borg El-Arab airport.
