The National Investment Bank (NIB) announced a significant financial turnaround, recording a net profit of EGP 6bn in the 2024/25 financial year, compared with losses of EGP 31.7bn in the previous year, marking a strong recovery in the bank’s financial position.
Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom, who also chairs the bank’s board of directors, chaired an extensive board meeting to discuss performance indicators, review developments in the bank’s restructuring process, and assess efforts to strengthen its role as a strategic development arm of the state.
During the meeting, the board reviewed progress in resolving financial entanglements with government entities. In June 2026, two framework agreements were signed to settle longstanding debts dating back to the 1980s, worth more than EGP 196bn.
The settlements covered subsidiaries of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and the General Authority for Reconstruction Projects and Agricultural Development. The board also discussed ongoing steps to conclude further settlements covering the remaining outstanding debts.
Rostom reiterated the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development’s commitment to continuing the restructuring process and settling all outstanding financial issues. He said these efforts were being pursued under the close and continuous supervision of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, as part of the government’s drive to resolve financial entanglements once and for all.
On the administrative front, the board approved the appointment of Dalia Mostafa as acting vice-chairperson and managing director of the bank, succeeding Ashraf Negm. The board expressed its appreciation for Negm’s efforts during his tenure.
The meeting also discussed the bank’s future operational plan, which includes developing a mechanism to guarantee infrastructure financing through innovative financing instruments. This will involve strategic partnerships with the World Bank and a number of international financial institutions, in close cooperation among the ministries of Finance and Planning and NIB subsidiaries.
