Spain-based outsourcing company Konecta has opened its regional headquarters and first global centre of excellence for generative artificial intelligence in New Cairo as part of a $100m investment plan in Egypt, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
Inaugurated by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi, the facility aims to establish Egypt as a regional hub serving the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The centre will provide services spanning digital customer experience, AI, data analytics, technical support, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The regional headquarters currently employs 800 Egyptian specialists offering services in Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch. To support its global market operations, the company plans to increase its local workforce to approximately 3,000 specialists by the end of 2028.
Vice Chairperson of Konecta for the Middle East and Africa Ahmed Al-Harrany said: “Egypt is not just an operational site for Konecta, but our regional headquarters and hosts the group’s first global centre of excellence in generative artificial intelligence.”
He added: “The growth of our team in Egypt to 800 specialists, with a target of reaching 1,000 by the end of this year, reflects the depth of Egyptian talent and our clients’ confidence around the world in the services we provide from Cairo.”
Hindi stated that the expansion of global investments in Egypt’s outsourcing industry reflects the establishment of an integrated system to attract investment and provide high-value digital services to global markets. He noted that hosting the generative AI centre aligns with ministry efforts to stimulate the export of advanced technological solutions.
During a tour of the facility, Hindi reviewed digital solutions developed by the company, including the “Kolibri” agentic AI platform, noting the contribution of Egyptian teams in developing, testing, and localising these technologies.
Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Chief Executive Ahmed El-Zaher said the expansion supports plans to grow service exports from Egypt, adding that hosting the centre of excellence highlights the country’s developing capabilities in advanced technologies.
The inauguration follows a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2025 between ITIDA and Konecta in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Founded in Madrid in 1999, Konecta employs 109,000 people providing services in 40 languages across 28 countries. The company stated that its expansion in Egypt is part of a strategic plan to accelerate the adoption of AI solutions globally.
