Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources successfully secured the local market’s full natural gas requirements during recent peak consumption driven by significant temperature rises, ensuring stable fuel supplies across all sectors, Minister Karim Badawi announced.
Badawi confirmed that the electricity sector, which witnessed maximum consumption rates during this summer period, received stable fuel supplies.
The minister’s remarks came during an inspection of the National Natural Gas Network Control Center (NATA) at the headquarters of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), where he reviewed network operation indicators and fuel supply statuses.
Badawi stated that the natural gas system’s success in absorbing record loads reflects the efficiency of the infrastructure, the flexibility of the operating system, and the effectiveness of a proactive summer plan. The strategy included maximising the utilisation of local production, securing additional supplies via regasification ships, and continuous coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to ensure supply sustainability.
During the control centre visit, the minister confirmed full readiness to secure fuel needs for the second half of the summer, with alternative plans in place to address any variables.
Badawi noted that the ministry continues to implement programmes to raise the efficiency of the natural gas system and enhance energy security. These efforts aim to sustainably meet the needs of citizens and economic sectors while keeping pace with a continuous increase in energy demand expected next month.
The inspection was attended by Sayed Selim, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); Mohamed Marzouk, Chairperson of GASCO; and Mahmoud Nagy, Undersecretary of the Ministry Supervising Safety, Environment, Energy Efficiency and Climate, and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, alongside other ministry leaders.
At the conclusion of the visit, Badawi thanked the EGAS and GASCO work teams, praising their round-the-clock efforts to maintain the stability of the national natural gas network and ensure continuous, reliable fuel supplies under the most difficult operating conditions.
