President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s “full support and solidarity” with Jordan on Saturday following an Iranian attack on Jordanian territory in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes on Iran, condemning the move as a violation of Arab sovereignty.

In a telephone call with King Abdullah II, Sisi stressed Egypt’s rejection of the “infringement on the sovereignty, security, and stability of Arab states.” He warned that such violations threaten to destabilise the entire region and could cause it to slide into a state of chaos, according to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy.

The two leaders discussed the military escalation currently witnessed in the region. Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s position calling for the settlement of various regional crises through peaceful means and dialogue, highlighting the risks of escalation to both regional and international security.

King Abdullah II expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s support for Jordan’s security and stability, praising the established brotherly ties between the two countries. The leaders agreed to maintain close consultation to enhance regional security.

The call took place after Jordan was among several countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE, that intercepted Iranian missiles on Saturday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards stated that the operation would “continue relentlessly” in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
