Egypt on Saturday condemned in the strongest terms Iran’s targeting of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of several “sisterly Arab countries,” warning that the current military escalation could slide the entire region into a state of “comprehensive chaos” with catastrophic consequences for international peace and security.
In a series of statements, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs expressed “deep concern” over the deteriorating security situation. Cairo specifically denounced the targeting of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, affirming Egypt’s full solidarity with these nations against threats to their stability and territorial unity.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty launched an intensive diplomatic marathon, conducting phone calls with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, France, Germany, Austria, and Spain. He also held discussions with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to consult on ways to support de-escalation efforts and contain the regional “whirlpool of escalation.”
During these communications, Egypt underscored that there are “no military solutions” to regional crises. Abdelatty emphasized that political solutions, dialogue, and negotiation remain the only path to resolving existing tensions and avoiding a full-scale confrontation that would devastate the region’s resources and people.
“Egypt renews its emphasis on the extreme importance of political and peaceful solutions,” the Ministry stated, calling on all parties to exercise the highest levels of self-restraint and adhere to the principles of good neighbourliness and respect for state sovereignty.
Domestically, the Ministry is closely monitoring the safety of Egyptian communities and diplomatic missions in light of the “accelerated military developments” in the region. Abdelatty held calls on Saturday morning with the heads of Egyptian missions in Tehran and Tel Aviv to ensure the well-being of Egyptian citizens.
The Ministry confirmed that it has raised the state of readiness at its embassies to provide 24-hour support and consular care. According to the latest reports from Egypt’s embassies and consulates, no injuries or casualties have been recorded among Egyptian nationals in the region to date.
Cairo stated it will continue its intensive coordination with regional and international actors to maintain the security of international navigation and protect the interests of all states while seeking a path toward calm.
