Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired the ninth meeting of the Governors’ Council on Tuesday to discuss key national priorities, including preparations for the Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening, the upcoming parliamentary elections, and measures to stabilize markets and improve public services across Egypt’s governorates.
At the outset, Madbouly reviewed the intensive preparations by all ministries and relevant state agencies ahead of the Grand Egyptian Museum’s grand opening on November 1, describing it as one of the most anticipated global cultural events of the year. With only days remaining before the inauguration, he stressed that all parties are working around the clock to ensure a successful and well-organized celebration.
He added that final touches are being applied to development works in the museum’s surrounding area and on the roads leading to the site, emphasizing that all involved governorates must maintain maximum readiness, particularly regarding cleanliness, lighting, and site coordination.
Turning to the House of Representatives elections, Madbouly called for close coordination with the National Election Authority to ensure the electoral process proceeds smoothly. He also urged authorities to facilitate voter participation and guarantee that citizens can easily access polling stations.
Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany said the meeting’s agenda covered several critical issues, including commodity price monitoring, market regulation, winter readiness, and the reconciliation of building violations, in addition to improving public service delivery across governorates.
Following the decision of the Automatic Pricing Committee for Petroleum Products, the Prime Minister directed officials to determine appropriate fare adjustments for public and inter-governorate transportation while maintaining price stability and enforcing strict measures against unauthorized fare increases.
Madbouly further underscored the need for daily market oversight to ensure the availability of essential goods, price transparency, and to prevent unjustified price hikes. He also called for greater cooperation with chambers of commerce and retail chains to expand outlets offering affordable basic commodities.
Addressing winter preparations, Madbouly instructed governorates to review the readiness of emergency and operations rooms and ensure continuous coordination with central operations units. He stressed the importance of maintaining sufficient equipment, including suction trucks, and closely monitoring weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Meteorological Authority.
The Prime Minister also directed Nile-side governorates to take decisive action to remove encroachments on both banks of the river, preventing potential flooding and rising water levels. He reiterated that there would be zero tolerance for illegal construction or agricultural violations during the election period.
Madbouly revealed that the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) had prepared a comprehensive report evaluating 11 key public services across governorates, based on citizen feedback. These include water and sanitation, electricity, road paving, cleanliness, lighting, and healthcare, among others. The report, he said, will be circulated to governors to guide efforts to enhance service quality and address citizens’ needs.
