Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders on Sunday on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, discussing the Gaza situation and the importance of a two-state solution.
Erdogan arrived at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport and was greeted at the summit venue by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Before the main session and signing ceremony, he met with leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
In his talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Erdogan emphasised the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and rebuilding the territory, adding that Turkey’s humanitarian aid to the region continues uninterrupted, according to a statement from Turkey’s Presidential Communications Directorate. He told Macron that Turkey remains determined to develop cooperation with France in all areas.
The Turkish president also stated that a window of opportunity for lasting peace has opened and must be utilised effectively.
Earlier in the day, Erdogan met with Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. During that meeting, Erdogan said that developing political relations between the two countries also contributes to cooperation in trade and investment, and that they are making efforts to advance in other areas, particularly defence industry cooperation.
