The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, which is set to become the world’s tallest bridge, will officially open to traffic on Sept. 28, the Guizhou Provincial Government has confirmed, according to a report by Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The bridge measures 2,890 metres in length with a main span of 1,420 metres. At 625 metres above the river below, it will claim two world records: the tallest bridge and the largest span bridge ever built in a mountainous area.

Engineers relied on a range of advanced technologies to construct the bridge, including a sophisticated navigation satellite system, drone support, BIM modelling, intelligent monitoring systems, ultra-high-strength materials, and innovative building techniques.

According to the report, the Huajiang Grand Canyon bridge successfully completed its final load test on Aug. 25. The procedure involved 96 trucks weighing a total of around 3,300 tonnes, which were positioned across the deck in batches to measure the displacement and stress on the main span, towers, cables, and suspenders.
