The embassy hosted Amal Metwaly, the oldest recipient of a Master’s degree in Egyptian history, as a special guest of the event. Metwaly inspired the Egyptian people by continuing her study regardless of her age, health conditions, and other difficulties. During the event, she said, “No life with despair and No despair with life”.

Metwaly’s passion for learning inspired the female staff of the embassy to pursue their career goal and happiness without giving up. Ambassador Hong Jin-wook expressed his gratitude toward Amal’s efforts and mentioned that women’s role in Egypt and everywhere else in the world is becoming significant. He noted Metwaly is an exemplary model not only to women but also to everyone.

The Embassy of Korea congratulates women for their day and would like to express its support for women’s active role in society. The Republic of Korea is implementing different projects like ‘Project for Preventing and Combating Gender-based Violence in Egypt’ with UNFPA and ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment in Egypt’ with UNWOMEN to enhance women’s rights in Egypt.
