Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, discussed with Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, latest preparations for the climate summit COP27, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.

COP27 will witness the announcement of the details of the projects presented within the national platform for green projects, the “NWFI” programme, as well as preparations for the launch of the Sharm El-Sheikh Fair Funding Guide. In addition it will witness the announcement of start-ups working in the field of climate technology.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in negotiations with multilateral and bilateral development partners and international alliances concerned with climate finance, regarding participation in financing the National Platform for Climate Projects.

In a related context, the two ministers discussed the developments in preparing the Sharm El-Sheikh Fair Financing Guide, which is a national initiative to stimulate innovative financing and enhance climate finance efforts locally, regionally and internationally, and push the international community to move from the pledges stage to the implementation stage, which will include clear recommendations and mechanisms that support the role of relevant parties  from the government and private sectors, international institutions, and non-profit organizations in order to increase climate finance efforts and provide funds to developing countries and emerging economies.

On the other hand, the two ministers reviewed the results of the International Climatech Run2022 competition, which was launched last August, with the aim of motivating startups working in the field of climate technology, and digital artists to contribute their innovative solutions and artworks to confront the phenomenon of climate change. The competition witnessed the active participation of 422 companies from 77 Countries around the world have advanced solutions in the sectors of renewable energy, food security, agriculture, water, industry and transportation, and witnessed the effective participation of 166 artists from 55 countries, and it is scheduled to announce the final list that will have the opportunity to participate in the climate conference.

They also discussed the final preparations for the launch of the Climate and Development Report, which was prepared over the past period in close cooperation between the concerned national authorities and the World Bank team to produce a report that expresses the necessary relationship between development efforts in Egypt and climate change, in order to support the steps taken by the state to achieve a green transformation. It also reviews the impact of climate change on development efforts and the achievement of sustainable development goals, and takes into account the steps and measures taken by the state in various fields to enhance green transformation efforts and combat the effects of climate change.

It is worth noting that the current portfolio of development cooperation projects in the environment sector amounts to $284m in several projects, including the Greater Cairo Air Pollution Control Project implemented with the World Bank Group.
