Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, discussed on Monday preparing for the Youth Day, which will be held in the framework of Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.

El-Said reviewed the youth activities carried out by the ministry in the various fields of development and awareness, pointing to the role of the National Institute for governance and sustainable development –the training arm of the ministry – and the training programs and grants provided to young people.

She explained that since 2020, the Institute’s tasks have been changed to raise awareness of the issue of sustainable development and the issue of governance at the national level.

During the meeting, she stressed the importance of localizing the Sustainable Development Goals at the governorate level, noting that Egypt is one of the first countries in the world to localize the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, so that each governorate – especially youth as a key component-has sufficient information about those goals within their governorates.

She referred to the file of Egyptian Family Development, population growth rates and upgrading the characteristics of the population, which is handled by the ministry in coordination with a number of ministries, pointing out the importance of the role of young people in this framework, where the establishment of clubs to raise awareness of the population issue has been started.

For his part,  Sobhi stressed the constant readiness to coordinate in any activity related to youth, pointing out the importance of capacity-building and youth rehabilitation programs, building the Egyptian human being by improving the health pattern, developing cultural and scientific awareness, launching creative skills, discovering and caring for talented people, qualifying young people for the labour market and spreading the culture of self-employment.
