Barcelona – Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said that more than 19 meetings were held within 48 hours on the sidelines of the Egyptian delegation’s participation in the activities of the 2022 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain.
The minister added during a session with a number of Egyptian journalists in Barcelona, that on the first day of the visit, he attended a ceremonial dinner at the invitation and presence of the King of Spain and various delegation leaders in the presence of the Spanish Prime Minister.
“The King of Spain invited me to personally speak with him and delivered his greetings to President Al-Sisi. He also spoke highly of Egypt. This was followed by a meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister, arranged by the King of Spain himself,” Talaat said.
He added that after this meeting, several other meetings were held with several ministers from the joint delegations to discuss means of cooperation between the two sides.
Regarding the ministry’s keenness to participate in the exhibition, Talaat said that the main reason is to see the latest technologies and developments in the communications and information technology sector and to know more about the plans and strategies of international companies, especially that this sector is characterised by rapid development and changes.
According to Talaat, the exhibition also provides an opportunity to hold meetings with the ministers of friendly countries with which cooperation is targeted. Moreover, meetings with the ministers of Jordan, Bahrain, Palestine, and Rwanda were held on the side-lines of the exhibition.
He added that the exhibition is also a good chance to hold meetings with international companies working in the fields of communications and information technology to increase and expand the scope of cooperation with them, noting that meetings have already been held with Airtel, Etisalat, Huawei, Microsoft, STL, Samsung, Cisco, and Oppo.
Several agreements were also concluded between Telecom Egypt and other companies to expand cooperation in the field of infrastructure management. An agreement was signed with AFR-IX Telecom to lay a cable through Telecom Egypt stations, which is an important step within the framework of the state’s plan to increase the number of cables transiting through Egypt.
An agreement with Huawei was also signed to establish a storage point for internet content in Egypt, in line with the ministry’s vision to make Egypt a major point in the field of establishing data centres and hosting data.
