The unemployment rate in Egypt rose to 7.5% during the third quarter (3Q) of 2021, compared to 7.3% in 2Q 2021 and 7.4% in 1Q 2021, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics announced on Tuesday.

The unemployment rate witnessed a significant jump during the second quarter of last year, after it recorded at that time 9.6% of the total labour force, due to the lockdown in Egypt to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

According to CAPMAS, the total labour force in Egypt registered 29.30 million individuals during 3Q 2021, an increase of 0.9% over the previous quarter.

The agency said that this rise is due to the influx of new graduates during August and September into the labour market, which leads to an increase in the unemployed in this quarter.

The number of unemployed people recorded 2.211 million in 3Q 2021, an increase of 96,000 people compared to 2Q 2021.
