Grand Egyptian Museum’s Board meets to review construction situation

The Board of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) met, on Wednesday, to review work progress at the museum. The meeting was chaired by Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. 

Atef Miftah, general supervisor of the GEM and the surrounding area, briefed the attendees on the construction progress at the museum. He presented a video on the methodology used to transfer the Khufu Solar Boat from the Giza Pyramids to the museum, as well as the construction work of the Khufu Solar Boat’s display building. 

He added that the security system of the museum adopts a state-of-the-art technology that provides the highest international safety standards. 

Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at the GEM, said that archaeological work in the Grand Staircase is 100% complete, and that 60% of King Tutankhamun’s collection is now placed in display cases.

The GEM Board decided to form a committee to follow up on the implementation of the contract with the alliance that will provide and operate services at the museum to ensure that international standards are provided.
