Egypt’s Shoukry calls for prioritising political solution to Yemen crisis

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received, on Monday, Chief of the Yemeni Shura Council, Ahmed Obaid bin Dagher, in Cairo to discuss the developments of the Yemeni crisis and ways to enhance Egypt’s support for the war-torn country.

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s firm stance towards the Yemeni crisis, considering that Yemen is one of the pillars of the Arab national security.

He also stressed the need for a comprehensive settlement according to the previous agreements in this regard, as well as ending foreign interference in the Yemeni affairs, which will guarantee the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen.

The initiative announced by Saudi Arabia in March 2021 to end the Yemeni crisis was welcomed again during the meeting.

Both officials stressed the need for all Yemeni parties to rally around the Saudi initiative in order to support efforts to bring peace to Yemen.

For his part, Bin Dagher expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continuous support to Yemen and the Yemeni community residing in Egypt, as well as his country’s aspiration to strengthen the various frameworks of bilateral cooperation, especially in the framework of priority areas for the Yemeni side.
