The committee for human rights at Egypt’s House of Representatives, headed by Tarek Radwan, will meet with the Technical Secretariat of the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights next Sunday.
During the meeting, a review will be conducted of the most prominent outcomes of the National Strategy for Human Rights. The strategy was issued according to the Prime Ministerial decree to establish the Permanent Higher Committee for Human Rights, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and with the membership of various ministries and national authorities concerned.
The strategy’s foremost objectives include the promotion of rights of the Egyptian citizen and the establishment of equality in society. It also aims for sustainable cooperation between all parties, including the civil society.
Radwan indicated that the role of the legislative body, represented in the House of Representatives, is to ensure that the frameworks, visions, and applications of the executive institutions are consistent with human rights.
This includes the promotion, respect, and protection of all civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights and freedoms stipulated in the Egyptian Constitution and international human rights agreements to which Egypt has joined.
The Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights follows up on human rights conditions in Egypt and ensures the implementation of the country’s existing international obligations with respect to human rights.
