Sawiris Foundation launches Arts, Culture Scholarship

The Sawiris Foundation for Social Development has announced the launch of the Sawiris Arts & Culture Scholarship (SACS), with the deadline for applicants to submit their entries on 15 May.

The scholarships are offered to Egyptian nationals (not including dual nationality holders) to support their BA degree studies for up to four years, or MA degree courses for up to two years. 

According to the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, SACS welcomes applicants who wish to pursue their education in the field of arts and culture. The field includes the performing arts and visual arts and film studies, focusing on studies pursued at an internationally recognised university.

The performing arts field includes music, singing, theatre, drama, dance, musical theatre, folklore, acting, directing, playwriting, scenery design, song writing, and music production.

The visual arts field includes fine arts, sculpture, fashion design, photography, video art, animation, textiles, printmaking, and performance art.

Film studies field includes filmmaking, script writing, film production, directing, post-production, editing, cinematography.

The applicants for undergraduate and MA programmes must apply and be admitted to one of the universities specified by the Sawiris Foundation in their field of specialisation.

Applicants to study music must have at least Level 5 at Trinity College London Examinations or Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, merit, and personality demonstrated through academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and social behaviour.

Applicants should commit to return to work inside Egypt in the field of their specialisation for a period of two to three years after graduation.

The jury deciding scholarships consists of experts in various fields of arts and culture, in addition to representatives from the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation expenses, educational materials, living allowance, travel expenses, and health insurance.

The Foundation will announce the scholarship winners on 10 June, with the new academic year starting in September/October 2021.
