Egypt’s Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan proposed, on Saturday, that the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) should submit a complaint to the International Labour Organization (ILO) regarding the situation of Palestinian workers.

Saafan’s remarks came during the ALO’s 94th Board of Directors’ virtual meeting. He added that this complaint should be presented in the next ILO conference.

The Minister confirmed the important role played by the organisation to improve the working conditions in Arab countries.

Director General of the ALO Fayez Al Mutairi renewed the organisation’s confidence in Ahmed Aboul Gheit as the Secretary-General of the Arab League for a second term.

He said that the meeting aims to discuss the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic situation and its repercussions, which have affected various economic and social institutions, including the ALO.

Al Mutairi stressed that supporting the Palestinian workers in one of the organisation’s priorities, voicing their rejection to the violations those workers are exposed to by Israel.

The ALO meeting asserted the world has to cooperate in order to recover from the Coronavirus pandemic, which increased the poverty and unemployment rates in some Arab countries.
