Egypt is closely following with great interest the political developments in Somalia, and the course that these developments have taken, as violence broke out in the capital Mogadishu in the past two days.

According to a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt affirmed its call for all political parties in Somalia to work together to address the causes of the current crisis and reach a consensual solution.

Egypt also called on all parties to exercise restraint and adhere to peaceful means and dialogue, whilst working towards holding free, fair, and transparent elections as soon as the Somalis reached an agreement on this.

Also affirming its support for all political efforts aimed at resolving the current political situation, Egypt said this should take place in a way that achieves the hopes of the Somali people.

This relates to security, stability, development, and eliminating the threat of terrorism. It calls on all partners to provide support and assistance to Somalia to overcome the current situation and achieve peace and stability in the country.
