Egypt’s FM, Intelligence chief stress support for Lebanon’s security, stability

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) General Abbas Kamel met with Lebanon’s Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri, on Wednesday.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) General Abbas Kamel met with Lebanon’s Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri, on Wednesday.

The meeting came during Al-Hariri’s visit to the Egyptian capital as part of an official visit, during which he also met with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

In a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez, the meeting dealt with reiterating Egypt’s firm position in supporting Lebanon’s security and stability.

The two sides also sought to confirm Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s efforts aimed at overcoming its current challenges, in order to achieve its aspirations for stability.

The Egyptian officials stressed the importance of upholding the country’s national interests, in order to lift itself out of the current deadlock, as part of the Lebanese state’s commitment to the country’s constitution.

For his part, Al-Hariri reiterated his appreciation for the support and assistance provided by Egypt to his country, and its sincere efforts to mobilise international support for Lebanon in its current stage.
