The Arts and Culture Complex at Helwan University is preparing to open Egypt’s first specialised Contemporary Art Museum, which will display artistic collections created by local contemporary artists.

The new Museum will showcase paintings and statues by academic staff from different Egyptian universities. The Arts and Culture Complex was recently inaugurated by President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi.

Ashraf Reda, Executive Director of the Arts and Culture Complex, said that the complex aims to support the intellectual and cultural development of Egypt’s youth, and to create a cultural and artistic environment in the country.

It aims to do so by introducing the museum’s visitors to the work of Egyptian artists, such as photography, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and graphics.

He noted that all artworks on display in the museum, which are expected to be updated twice a year, are characterised by a sense of artistic aesthetics, as all works are carefully selected. They have been chosen to reflect the great diversity in the different art schools present in Egypt.
