Egypt, World Bank discuss cooperation in environment issues

 Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad discussed with the World Bank delegation boosting cooperation between the two sides, stressing Egypt’s keenness to integrate the environmental aspects in the state’s development plans.

A World Bank delegation is visiting Egypt from 8 to 19 November, within the framework of a series of meetings that the mission holds with a number of ministries. 

The visit aims to support the structural reforms that the Egyptian state intends to implement. Representatives of the Ministry of International Cooperation also attended the meeting.

Fouad emphasised that the environment sector in Egypt has recently witnessed a major transformation. Methods of dealing with the environment as one of the main aspects of achieving sustainable development have been developed as well. 

She noted that Egypt has taken various measures to integrate the sustainability standards writing the developmental plans. 

The minister further pointed out that the National Low Carbon Strategy, which is under construction, aims to reduce carbon emissions at the national level in line with Egypt’s commitments in the Paris Climate Agreement.

During the meeting, the parties agreed to hold a set of technical meetings to come up with a set of programs and activities that can be implemented in this field.
