The Housing and Development Bank (HDB) has, for the sixth consecutive year, honoured the top performing students who ranked first in the 2019/20 academic year.

The honoured students included those in the preparatory stage, as well as at high school, alongside visually impaired and technical diploma students.

Last week, the bank held a celebration to honour the students at the Ministry of Education, in the presence of Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawky, HDB Chairperson and Managing Director Hassan Ghanem, and several leaders in Egypt’s banking sector. Also present at the celebration were officials from the ministry and the honoured students’ families.

This celebration is the result of the HDB’s belief that contributing to the development and advancement of education is one of the pillars of human development, helping create a new generation capable of facing future challenges.

Ghanem said that the bank’s strategy in the field of social responsibility focuses on sustainable initiatives that contribute to the development of education and health.

He also said that, in line with this strategy, the HDB is playing a positive and effective role in providing support, especially for developing the learning process. As part of this, it is taking part in initiatives that improve the educational environment for students, whilst providing all available capabilities to raise the level of students.

Ghanem stressed that education is the main pillar for achieving a comprehensive social and economic renaissance, whilst also creating an informed generation capable of advancing the nation’s future.

He added that this honouring comes as part of the bank’s programme which has been in place for six years, which aims to enhance the role that the bank plays in caring for Egypt’s high-achieving students.

He said out that the bank’s care for excellent students continues all the way to college level, on the condition that they continue to excel academically and ethically.

The sponsorship includes monthly grants, laptops and Internet access to help students study and research, according to Ghanem. This comes in addition to financial grants upon graduation with honours with the goal to encourage these students to continue excelling.

He said that 112 students have benefited from the bank’s sponsorship programmes so far, of which there are 27 each year.
