Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad represented Egypt on Thursday during ministerial-level meetings at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, which is being held online. The meeting, which was due to be held in Berlin, took place in the presence of UN Secretary General António Guterres and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The meeting, which is now taking place online due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, addressed the environmental, social and economic impacts of the pandemic.

During the meeting, Fouad stressed the need for global unity and cooperation in facing the impacts of the virus.

“The most important step to take is to support the climate related projects in the matter of resilience and adaptation, and to link climate change to health as well as transferring technologies and paying more attention to scientific research,” she said.

Fouad further highlighted the right of African nations and other developing countries to obtain the appropriate funds to combat climate change and adapt to the impacts. She also noted that the issue of climate change should not be discussed seperately from biological diversity.
