The Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Chemistry Administration has intensified its services to the business community by operating all its affiliated laboratories at full capacity for the foreseeable future.

The Chemistry Administration is responsible for testing the quality of sterilisation and disinfection products, including antiseptics, detergents, alcohol products, and masks that are being used against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Magdy Fahmy, Head of Chemistry Administration, said the administration receives over 500 samples of disinfectants, detergents, alcohol, and masks per day for testing. The administration also measures the products’ conformity with Egyptian and international quality standards and their suitability for use.

Fahmy added that the administration is working in conjunction with laboratories equipped with the latest facilities, that are internationally approved according to ISO 17025. There are currently eight branches in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez, Assiut, Safaga, Port Said and Damietta.

He noted that the administration has laboratories concerned with the analysis of disinfection, cleaning, and sterilising products, including detergent and soap laboratories. There are also alcohol and chromatography laboratories which analyse alcohol samples used in sterilisation to determine the alcohol percentage.

Fahmy added that the administration has an internationally approved microbiological laboratory that can perform disinfection ability tests, and an inorganic laboratory, analysing chlorine and oxygenated water samples.
