Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated its travel guide for a number of countries, including Egypt, on Sunday and updated its travel warning to Yellow, which means to “be extra careful”, amid the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

Yellow does not mean that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is advising against traveling to Egypt nor does the Danish Health Authority recommends staying home for 14 days after traveling to yellow countries, Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website clarified.

The Danish Health Authority’s recommendation to stay home after returning home applies only to areas categorised with a “red” or “orange” security levels.

The Danish embassy in Cairo said on Sunday that it is constantly monitoring the development of Covid-19 in Egypt. Danes residing or traveling to Egypt are encouraged to follow the local authorities’ information through the news media and information channels below.

According to the Egyptian authorities and World Health Organisation, so far this is no local spread of the virus, but about people who have tested positive with links to other countries, the embassy added.

Some 49 cases of Covid-19 have been found in Egypt so far, of which the first cases are either healthy or recovering. The latest 45 cases stem from a cruise ship in the Nile between Aswan and Luxor. The source of infection has been identified as a Taiwanese/American woman who had been on the boat before and found positive for Covid-19 upon her return, the embassy mentioned.

Due to the positive tests on the ship, the Egyptian authorities are currently in the process of examining passengers on three other ships in Luxor. All 45 cases from the boat as well as the other previous cases are located at the Negila hospital in Marsa Matrouh.

The embassy encourages all Danes in Egypt to download the Ministry of Foreign Affairs application that facilitates communication between citizens and the Ministry as well as sending citizens important information on how to behave.
