Cairo prosecution office renewed the detention of the head of the Old Cairo district Sunday for 15 days pending investigation over charges of bribing.

Earlier this month, Egypt’s Administrative Control Authority (ACA) said that the suspect was arrested over allegedly receiving EGP 1m from a contractor working with the district.

The suspect is facing several charges, including receiving bribes, abuse of his position, and wasting the public money.

The investigation revealed that the suspect acknowledged receiving a bribe from a contractor, and asked another female contractor for a bribe of EGP 4m. She then filed a complaint at the ACA.
