The National Post Authority has decided to stop the issuance of paper saving records and to replace them with electronic cards in all post offices in Cairo and Giza as a first phase starting this month.

The decision is a prelude to generalise it across the country except on the accounts of minors.

Essam El Sagheer, the chairperson of the National Post Authority, said in a report on Thursday that the decision is part of the authority’s attempt to mechanise all services and to gradually use electronic cards in dealing with customers in a way that suits the state’s efforts to increase financial transparency.

The number of saving clients in the post reached 24 million with a total depositing capital of EGP 196bn, according to El Sagheer.

He added that the authority has managed over the past period to transform the date of customers across the country from being manual to being mechanised as to help them save time and effort.
