Minister of Industry and Trade, Tarek Kabil, has issued a decision to prohibit exporting all kinds of leather until they are given on site production inspection by the General Organization for Import and Export Control (GOEIC). The decision includes eliminating the inspection made on the imported leather production inputs.

The minister said that the decision aims to regulate leather export and ensure accuracy of data on shipments exported and prevent manipulation. The decision stipulated that GOEIC would carry out the inspection based on a request from the exporter, where GOEIC must be notified 48 working hours before the inspection date.

The committee carrying out the inspection seals the containers whose contents were examined, where the inspection report issued by the committee must include the type of issued leathers and their quantities.
Representatives of GOEIC must ensure the safety of the seal before shipping is allowed. They have the right to carry out random inspection to ensure both the validity of the amounts and the quantities exported.

Kabil noted that the decision stipulates that the imported inputs of production must not be subject to the inspection, especially that the final product is subject to supervision.

He pointed out that this procedure aims to facilitate the release of the production inputs, which are imported to be used to manufacture the final product.
