FEDCOC division prepares plan to develop SMEs through Tawtin initiative

Final preparations to be finished within one month, according to Salem

The General Division of Computers and Software at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) has taken serious steps to activate its localisation Tawtin initiative, which it adopted to develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and improve their performance across all governorates.

FEDCOC member and head of the computer and software division, Khalil Hassan Khalil, said that the initiative aims to link the needs of SMES in Egypt and major global and local companies to provide jobs for all parties.

Senior vice president of the division, Mohamed Salem, noted that an integrated plan is being prepared. He is expecting it to be completed within one month to rehabilitate SMEs through development programmes—tailored according to the needs of international companies and major local corporations—and helping the small companies technically and administratively. This aims to provide trained experts who can fulfil their roles more professionally in the fields of distribution, maintenance, technical support, outsourcing, and project implementation, development, and services. The initiative is supported by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).

Executive director of the division, Mohamed Azzam, said that this is one of a series of important initiatives that the division will pose in the coming period. He added that the division is focused on increasing the added value of companies and developing their performance to be commensurate with the developments of business models and technology. He pointed out that this would assist SMEs in providing new products and services, in addition to obtaining more business opportunities; hence, increasing job creation for youth and maintaining the local labour force.

Furthermore, Azzam stressed that most of the SMEs that will qualify through the initiative are promising companies that offer maintenance and technical support to global companies and major national enterprises.
