Civilian, top police officer killed in Ismailia jail break

Some 218 prisoners have been pardoned by a presidential decree to commemorate the 6th of October War, the Ministry of Interior announced Tuesday.

A civilian and the head of the Abu Souir Investigation Bureau in Ismailia were killed in a jailbreak on Friday, as inmates rioted and fled the prison.

The civilian named Ahmed Rizk was said to “have been passing by during the incident” while the officer, a major named Mohamed Al-Husseini, was killed as he chased the inmates. A conscript was injured in process.

So far, the Ministry of Interior has confirmed that six inmates are on the run.

According to the ministry, the inmates fled the prison after a riot; a police force chased them and there was an exchange of fire.
