The Industrial Development Authority (IDA) has received eight requests from local and international companies for Gray Portland Cement licences after closing the door for applications on 31 May.

IDA Chairperson Ismail Gaber said the authority will immediately begin studying submitted documents and offers in accordance with the rules and regulations approved by the Terms of Reference (TORs) and verify their match to requirements within 60 days.

The technical qualification committee decides on the qualified companies to join the bid for obtaining licences.

The IDA has completed the delivery of TORs on 14 new licences for the launch of Gray Portland Cement projects in nine governorates, with a total production capacity of 28m tonnes by 2m tonnes annually for each plant.

The applied companies are responsible for the management of its energy needs, where 35 local and foreign companies bought 37 TORs.

IDA had previously extended the period of receiving applications and requests by investors, according to the TORs to 31 May.
