An employee of a currency exchange company was robbed after withdrawing funds for two companies.

Three anonymous men, who claimed to be public funds investigation officers, stole EGP 3m on Monday near Nasr City neighbourhood.

The Ministry of Interior spokesperson said in a statement that the ministry launched investigations into the incident.

The statement read that the three men were not armed, yet they used another car to stop the employee’s car, pretending to be officers, and forcing him to come into their car. Shortly afterwards, they threw him out of the car and fled.

Article 317 of Egypt’s penal code states the penalty for theft crimes is imprisonment with labour for a number of years, depending on the incident.
