Saturday marks the launch of the Anuga international conference and exhibition for food and beverage industries in Germany, from 10 to 14 October.

The Anuga exhibition 2015 is held on an area of 280,000 sqm. Around 7,000 exhibitors from about 100 countries will participate in the exhibition, including 25 Egyptian companies working in the sectors of juices, dairy products and various food industries.

The exhibition includes many food and beverages sectors, including retail and wholesale food, retail and wholesale of beverages, cooperatives, pharmacies and health food stores. It also includes representatives of the food and beverage trade, food and beverages import and export, and food and beverages manufacturing industries.

Workers in the food industries sector view the Anuga exhibition as a good opportunity for development of the sector’s exports to the European market, as it is one of the largest international specialised exhibitions in the sector.

Food industry exports from Egypt declined by about 3% since the beginning of this year to the end of August, registering EGP 13.6bn, against EGP 14.1bn during the same period last year.

According to a report by the General Organization for Exports and Imports Control (GOEIC), exports of essential oils and resins were the highest, registering EGP 1.4bn compared to EGP 2.3bn, marking a decline of 40%. The processed cheese sector followed, registering EGP 1.06bn against EGP 1.7bn, a decline of 37.6%.

The sugar sector is the third largest in exports with EGP 73m compared to EGP 1.2m, a decline of 38.7%. Chewing gum exports are the fourth largest, registering EGP 730m compared to EGP 471m, marking an increase of 54.9%, followed by the frozen vegetables sector in fifth place, with EGP 558m against EGP 770m, down by 27.5%.
