Abdel Gawad and Evans win Sharm El-Sheikh International Championship

Karim Abdel Gawad and Ali Farag met in an all-Egyptian final, with Abdel Gawad winning the Sharm El-Sheikh Squash International Championship title. Abdel Gawad won against his compatriot with a total score of 3-2.

In the first set, Abdel Gawad won with 11 to 6 points. In the second set, Farag won with 11-9; then Abdel Gawad renewed his victory by winning the third set with 11-9. After that, in the fourth set, Farag won with 11-6. The challenge went on until Abdel Gawad won the fifth and the final set with 12-10, as well as the title of the championship.

During the championship, Abdel Gawad met four Egyptian players. His first victory was against Finnish Matias Tuomi with a total score of 3-1 in sets. In the second round, he defeated Amr Arafa with 3-1.  The quarterfinal witnessed his victory against Mohamed Abouelghar with 3-2, the total of the five rounds which he played to qualify for the final round. In the final round, he easily defeated Amr Abdelhamid with 3-0.

After winning the Pittsburgh Open title in the US and the Northern Ontario Open title in Canada, this is his third title among the tournaments of the PSA World Tour this year, and his ninth title over his career which started in 2008.

On the other side, female Egyptian players did not win the title. Tesni Evans, who represents Wales, won over Egyptian Heba El-Torky in the first set with 12 to 10 points. El-Torky did not give up and won in the second set with 11-6 as well as in the third set with 11-7. Evans regained her victory in the fourth round with 11-7 as well as the fifth one with 11-5. The decisive victory in the Egyptian stadiums in Sharm El-Sheikh was in favour of Tesni Evans with 3-2 in sets.
